A smarter Croydon

2:34pm Wednesday 18th April 2001

The latest progress report on the Smarter Croydon campaign says that more than 100 environmental improvement schemes, worth a long term investment of £2.3million, are in the pipeline.

Smarter Croydon, a £250,000 community grants scheme, supports locally-requested initiatives and has attracted considerable local interest.

One element of the programme is cleaning and greening the borough - 21 wards have been blitzed in a clean up.

A pilot neighbourhood warden' scheme is being considered which would employ a council officer to act as the authority's environmental eyes and ears out on some of the borough's streets.
