RUGBY
Harlow 54
Trojan 12
(Friendly) A HARLOW development squad proved too strong for the Trojan Rugby Club in a friendly match at Ram Gorse.
The Swedish outfit were using the game as a pre-season warm up for their upcoming domestic season, while Harlow took full advantage of the fixture to blood a number of colts and younger senior players.
The game, played in front of a large crowd, was in three sessions to allows coaches the chance to rotate players.
The Swedish squad showed great commitment in the forwards and tackled hard in the first third, but had problems dealing with the pacy Harlow team.
The Rams offloaded the ball quickly in the tackle and moved it wide as they ran in four excellent tries.
In the second half, the hosts had to work a lot harder although they took advantage of the Trojan's kicking game to run in three more tries.
During the remainder of the session and in the third, a number of Harlow players pulled on the red Trojan shirts and joined in to support the visitors.
And it had the effect of making it a closer contest but, more importantly, it helped both sides.
It set a challenge readily taken up to the young Harlow squad, to prove they could match some of the more experienced Harlow players.
It certainly helped the visitors as they got on the scoresheet in the latter stages of the game.
