WITH their usual ambitious progamme, the Bishop's Stortford ladies are off to a flying start to the 2008 golfing season in their county and national competition events.
In the Hertfordshire inter-club Pearson trophy competitions, the Bishop's Stortford Golf Club team of Paula Cannon, Lisa Collins, Susie Hartley, Sharon King, Barbara Page and Sandy Rowsell, led by Jean Curtis, have won four of their first five matches.
They have beaten Chorleywood GC, Brickendon Grange GC and Berkhamsted GC and are poised to go through to the quarter finals.
But they must win their one remaining away match, against Brickendon Grange, to qualify.
Competing in the national Mail on Sunday knockout competition, Elaine Wilson's team have also started well with solid wins against Orsett GC (4/1), Colchester GC (4/1) and Burnham on Crouch GC ( 4/ ).
But there is still a long way to go before a place in finals.
In the club competitions, Jenny Tyler has won three competitions in a row, while Sandy Rowsell, who joined the club last year, has seen her handicap fall from 32 to 18 in that time.
Meanwhile, Captain Barbara Page is enjoying her year of office.
She said: "The ladies section is a whirlwind of activity.
"There is something going on all the time and it is marvellous and exciting to be involved in it all."
As well as playing in the Pearson trophy herself, Page has raised £300 so far for the NSPCC.
