Stortford trio get triathlon season off to a winning start

FOUR Bishop's Stortford Running Club members competed in their first race of the triathlon season in Bedford on Sunday - with three winning in their age groups.

The event consisted of a 400m pool-based swim, 25km country road cycle and 5km run around Bedford Park.

Alasdair Bruce took home first place in the 35-39 male category.

He recorded just over six minutes in the swim, 41mins 19secs in the cycle and 18mins 1sec in the run for an overall time of 1hr 5mins 22secs.

Lars Hyllested took first in the 50-54 male category with an overall time of 1hr 10mins 11secs (6mins 31secs - swim; 43mins 31secs - cycle; 20mins 9secs - run).

Octavia Chambers won first place in 25-29 female age group with an overall time of 1hr 18mins 16secs (6mins 57secs - swim; 49mins 8secs - cycle; 22mins 11secs - run).

Also competing in the 50-54 male category was David Carr, who recorded an overall time of 1hr 16mins 31secs (7mins 45secs - swim; 49mins 4secs - cycle; 19mins 42secs - run).

Meanwhile, father and daughter Graham and Gemma Statter competed in the Salzburg Marathon.

Graham finished in 3hr 25mins 28secs and Gemma, competing in her first marathon, finished in 4hrs 44mins 29secs.

Elsewhere, club member Liam Sheils competed in the Ashdon 10km race.

He finished in 45mins 55secs to achieve an impressive 25th place in a field of over 200 runners.
