HARLOW: Charity abseilers take to water tower

4:41pm Saturday 3rd May 2008

By David Jackman »

THRILL-seekers are abseiling from the Church Langley water tower this weekend, to raise tens of thousands of pounds for charity.

It is the eleventh year that the Rotary Club of Harlow Tye has organised the event.

Among those scheduled to take part today was Harlow Council chairman Lorna Spenceley who is raising money for her chosen charity, Harlow Stroke Support Group.

Fundraisers for the St Clare Hospice, at Hastingwood, are taking part today and tomorrow.

Among the abseilers tomorrow is 92-year-old Harry Joseph, who will become the oldest person to abseil from the 110ft high water tower.

If you are taking part, let us know how you get on. Tell us what you thought of the experience, and let us know how much you raised (and for which good cause).

Email your details to djackman@london.newsquest.co.uk.

You can also send jpeg pictures taken at the event, but we cannot promise to publish them.

Some of the information could be used in our coverage of the event in next week's Epping Forest Guardian, the Harlow and Bishop's Stortford Citizen, and the Epping Forest Independent.
