HARLOW Council's Playhouse general manager Paul Griffiths is to leave n July for personal reasons, just five months after on his new role.
Mr Griffiths is to quit following the death, in Edinburgh, of his sister, Lynda, 45, who leaves a 14-year-old son.
He said: "I have no option as the main relative but to take on legal guardianship and care of my nephew. This unfortunately means me relocating to Scotland and resigning from my post at the Playhouse. Obviously this is a very sad time for the family and myself and I thank all those who have offered their condolences."
He added: "I would also like to thank all staff who have worked so hard during the last couple of months who continue to ensure the Playhouse grows and develops.
"I should have very much liked to contribute to the long-term goals of the venue and make my mark on this wonderful theatre. I only hope the five months I have worked will add to the momentum and success of the venue and I will strive to achieve as much as possible in my remaining time here. I wish Harlow Council, its employees and the new incoming manager all the very best in taking the venue forward."
Lynn Seward, Harlow Council's head of community services, said: "I know this has been a difficult personal decision for Paul to take. He has very much enjoyed his short time at the Playhouse and is sad to be going.
"Although he has been only been with us for a short time he has already made changes, which will benefit the Playhouse in the future. He will be staying on until July to oversee the Playhouse's new season and continue work on moving the Playhouse forward. The Playhouse general manager is a key position and we will look to find a replacement as soon as possible."
