British tortillas make an important Discovery

JAMES Beaton, founder and joint managing director of Discovery Foods in Aveling Road, is the first non-American or Mexican to be awarded a place in the American Tortilla Industry Association's Hall of Fame.
James is one of only a handful of people who have made an exceptional contribution to the tortilla industry and are elected each year by the association which was set up to promote the tortilla industry and its good practice.
He said: "I'm delighted to have been invited to join this select authoritiative group. When I first became involved in importing tortillas some 20 years ago, there were only six Mexican restaurant outlets in the UK and three container loads of tortillas a year were enough to keep the market supplied.
"Today the tortilla industry in this country is worth in excess of 40 million."
