TOTTENHAM are battling Newcastle United for the signature of Manchester City's £6million-rated defender Richard Dunne, according to reports in the Daily Mail.
The Republic of Ireland centre-half has enjoyed an excellent season at Eastlands and is widely recognised as one of the league's most consistent performers.
And with doubts surrounding Ledley King's long-term future, Juande Ramos is on the prowl for a defender to partner Jonathan Woodgate at the heart of the defence.
However Toon boss Kevin Keegan, who has worked with Dunne at City during his time with the club, is known to be interested and has the advantage of being backed by owner Mike Ashley's financial clout.
Although Spurs may be unable to offer similar wages to Newcastle, they can boast the prospect of European football next season after the club qualified for the UEFA Cup via their Carling Cup victory over Chelsea.
