Hawks reserves lose out to Ware
Harlow Town 0
Ware 1
(Capital Reserve League)
THE offside flag proved to be the Hawks' undoing as Kevin Warren's battling side went down 1-0 at home to Ware.
The second-string Harlow Town side, captained by goalkeeper Michael Dumoulin, created several chances, but with the front line playing too far up the pitch, they were consistently caught out by the linesman's flag.
There were places in the starting line-up for Shaun Gliddon and TV presenter Jeff Brazier, while defender Lee Miles also turned out after a recent injury.
Ware's Steve Horsey went close with a rising shot seven minutes in, immediately before the Hawks countered, with Jon Olejnik lobbing the keeper, only to see his effort drop agonizingly wide of the near post.
Olejnik was left frustrated as he and his strike partner, Michael Greene, were frequently trapped offside, but on the rare occasion that the flag stayed down, he went clear of the defence, only for his shot to be stopped low by keeper Ryan Jones.
Shortly after the commencement of the second half, Jimmie Berrie forced a stop from Harlow custodian Michael Dumoulin, before Greene raced past marker Jon Hockley and produced a good save from Jones.
Greene was forced off through injury in the 82nd minute, and with Harlow having used all their available substitutes, the hosts were forced to carry on with ten men.
But Ware made the advantage in numbers count on 85 minutes when Horsey bicycle-kicked home from six yards after a corner from the right was flicked on.
Berry had the ball in the net again two minutes later, but this time it was the visitors who were left kicking themselves as a result of a late offside flag, with the goal being disallowed.
The hawks reserves next match is away to Leyton on Wednesday.
