Kirby happy with Harlow spirit
RYAN KIRBY hopes the spirit that got Harlow Town promoted last season has returned to Barrows Farm after Tuesday nights 2-1 success over Boreham Wood, writes Nick Hodgskin.
The Hawks manager also believes the result will be highly significant come the end of the season.
Kirby said: "It's a huge result for us tonight. We've moved up three places because of it. The sort of drive, togetherness and determination that we had last season, which got us promoted, is hopefully back now and we need it to be."
The visitors took the lead after a defensive mishap allowed Leon Archer to open the scoring. Harlow responded with a fantastic second half fight-back.
Danny Green got them level with a deflected strike before Mark Taylor scored a stunning free kick, curling the ball round the wall into the top corner to give the home side all three points.
The Hawks were desperate for a win after Saturday's injury time defeat to Maidstone. The Stones took the lead with a controversial Ian Selly free kick before James Bunn rounded an excellent move to equalise. Mark Saunders struck in the dying moments to leave the home side regretting their missed opportunities.
Kirby believes this weekend's game against Folkestone is crucial because he knows there are much tougher games awaiting.
He said: "I think we need three wins are needed and we need to keep it tight in other games. The big one is going to going to Folkestone as they are below us. If we go there and win, then we are a further three points ahead of them.
"There are some really tough games remaining but we are more than capable of getting the results required.
"Our goal difference is also positive and that could be a huge factor as the teams around us are all in minuses."
Harlow travel to Folkestone on the 21st of March, before hosting Billericay on the 24th, which will be an Easter Monday family day.
