HARLOW Running Club women's team had some fine individual performers in the third race of the Cross Country League series.

Racing against teams from Bishop's Stortford - hosting the event - Saffron Striders and Ware Joggers, Harlow women finished the day in third place.

Ware came in first place and should go on to seal the overall team prize.

Jenny Spelling had a strong race to finish in fourth place, only yards ahead of team-mate Dionne Jones in fifth.

Vicky Steadman in tenth completed the scoring to give the team a better overall points total than that of the previous week.

Harlow men's team suffered from a number of absentees and could only finish in a disappointing fourth.

But there was still a good run from Rick Ricketts, who got a time of 31mins 24secs to finish in eighth place for the third race running.

John Tennant (16th), John Evans (17th), David Ayling (28th), Grahame Thomas (31st), Jon Steadman (36th) and Roy Steven (41st) also ran well.

Bishops Stortford's men injected some competition into the proceedings by winning the men's race by three points from Ware, leaving the competition open until the final race.

The last race in the series, which is due to be hosted by Saffron Striders, is scheduled for January 13.
