Drama Workshop ready for Volpone

The Drama Workshop of Waltham Forest are preparing to bring Volpone, Ben Jonson’s most regarded play, to the Forest Community Centre in Walthamstow.

The play concerns itself with its title character, a rich Venetian gentleman who lies dying in his bed.

In fact he is merely pretending, and with his servant Mosca, aims to trick three men who think they are to acquire Volpone’s fortune.

Each arrive with extravagant gifts in order to sway Volpone into their favour, and their over generosity encourages the two tricksters to become more daring in Volpone’s ‘dying’ requests.

Ben Jonson was a famous rival of William Shakespeare, both achieving fame in the seventeenth century, and becoming icons in literature and theatre.

Volpone is on at the Forest Community Centre, Guilford Road, Walthamstow on 31st October, 1st and 2nd November. Tickets are priced at £6.00 and £4.00 for concessions, and can be reserved by calling 020 8524 7269.
