It’s funny how when you are young you turn your nose up at a wolf whistle and sneer at strangers who dare to comment on what they would consider your finer assets.

It took me years before I stopped leaving the house and asking anyone who was around ‘does my bum look big in this?’ These days I still get the odd look, and wolf whistles, though obviously as a 40 something not so many. Of course these days I am grateful for the attention and smile sweetly on most occasions. Though I recently discovered the chaps can be equally as cutting if you give them the evil look, which I just had too recently at my local when a horrendously fat sweaty builder got a little too over lecherous. He said loudly to his equally sweaty fat mate that I was no spring chicken!

Of course I can handle it now and often find a smile and a wink puts them in their place and melts them down to what resembles naughty little school boys. I actually quite enjoy the attention; it gave me a spring in my step this afternoon when a good looking guy standing at a bus stop whispered ‘sexy girl’ as I dashed passed him with two bags of M&S shopping. I proudly checked myself out in a shop window reflection, though I couldn’t quite understand what he found sexy about a red face mum in her forties.

It does give a woman a boost to receive a compliment; when you have been in a relationship you tend not to pay as much attention to detail and often fall down the ranks of the glammer stakes.

You tend to start dressing to please your man when you are dating; its little things like wearing my hair up all the time, though I actually prefer it loose as it makes me feel girly, and don’t they moan if you wear heels! Of course my man compliments me but you can’t help thinking he is after something.
