Ramos: I didn't join Spurs for the money
 |
| Juande Ramos |
SPURS manager Juande Ramos claims he came to England to enhance his reputation and not his bank balance.
The Spanish coach, who was criticised in his homeland for leaving a Savilla team he had twice guided to Uefa Cup glory, before deciding to head for White Hart Lane and the Premier League.
And Ramos, who had been tipped to take over from Martin Jol sometime before he finally succeeded him October claims it was the motivation of a fresh challenge that led him to take up Tottenham's offer.
"I didn't move to Tottenham for money," he told La Sexta. "It arrived at a moment when I couldn't refuse because I had everything I wanted in disposition.
"I told myself: "Well, they really want me". It's the big difference between a place where you know they want you and another one where you are a bit under pressure."
The former Real betis coach also explained that it was an easy decision to join a club of Spurs stature.
"It was a very easy and simple decision to take because I have been waiting for that chance all my life," he added.
"The criticism I have been the object of are totally unjustified. I am not bothered because everybody would have done the same thing."
