HARLOW: Reward offered after thieves steal station ticket machine
THIEVES who stole a ticket machine from Harlow Town Station, by wheeling it off on a trolley - would later find out that was empty, police said.
British Transport Police are appealing for information after the stand-alone machine was stolen in the early hours.
Train operating company National Express East Anglia is offering a reward of £1,000 to anyone who provides information that leads directly to the arrest and prosecution of the offenders.
Detective Sergeant David Gritton, who is leading the investigation, said: "Two men appear to have gained access into the booking hall area after they forced open the booking hall doors.
"The suspects then removed one of the stand-alone ticket machines and put it on to a trolley they had with them before making their exit. The machine did not, however, contain any cash."
The trolley used was later found in a car park to the rear of the station.
DS Gritton added: "We've made an extensive search of the area and are now appealing to anyone who was in the area at the time or who may have information about the incident to come forward to help us with our enquiries.
"All calls will be treated in confidence."
Anyone with any information about the theft, which happened at about 2.40am on Tuesday, March 18, should ring British Transport Police on 0800 40 50 40 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
